The track is based on the farmers old winter way over the frozen lakes to
Stockholm. Today very popular skate ices with thousands of skaters each
weekend under the winter.
The track is 30 kilometres, passes 2 lakes - Vallentunasjön and Norrviken, and 2 bays of Östersjön - Edsviken and Brunnsviken. Between the lakes there are land passages. The start is in Vallentuna, 25 kilometres north of Stockholm, at the north end of lake Vallentunasjön. After the start the track goes to the south end of the lake. Here is the first check point with refreshments situated at the country manor Såstaholm. Then the track turns to the north again for a short distance and after that there is time for the first land passage. The passage over land is about 3 kilometres. The track continues on lake Norrviken all along to its southern part and to the second land passage over to Edsviken. Just before the ice on Edsviken you find the second check point with refreshments at the ancient tavern Edsbacka Krog from the 18th century. The track follows almost the whole bay Edsviken. A couple of kilometres later there is time for the third and last land passage. On the passage you will see Ulriksdals Castle from 1700th century. Then you comes to the last part on the track on Brunnsviken. At the southern part of Brunnsviken you find the finish of Krogrännet at restarant and hotel Stallmästargården. Well done! |
